Spoilers: Ian in EastEnders 'devastated' that a family member may kill him
With Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt) in EastEnders currently in hospital following a brutal attack from someone in Albert Square, he’s quite evidently the most hated man in Walford’!
Now the police investigation into his attack is fully underway, it seems near enough everyone is a suspect, all with different reasons on why they would want Ian dead.
Actor Adam Woodyatt reveals that Ian would be left devastated if one of his children or a family member ended up being the person who attacked him.
He said: ‘I think his family being considered suspects are the only ones that’ll really hit him hard eventually. Especially his sons whereas Ben, sadly, not so much – there’s a lot of animosity between the two of them. With Bobby and Peter, if he finds that they’re both on the suspect list it would be devastating to him.’
He sighed, adding what he thinks when it comes to whether Ian is aware of how badly he is treating Peter (Dayle Hudson) and Bobby (Clay Milner Russell):
‘I think it’s a classic case of act now think later. He sees an opportunity with the Lucy foundation money but that’s pushed to the back of his mind – he has a plan to make sure Max can’t win this battle they’re in, both always one upping the other and this is just another example of his determination. He’s not thinking things through at all but he never gives up – I’ll give Ian that at least!’
Lately, Ian has been making a new enemy every week, did he have any idea that someone wanted him dead? Adam explained his thoughts:
‘I think Ian has been acting in the moment and not thinking about the consequences at all – or how he’s affecting people. Bigger things like buying The Vic with Max’s money had far more consideration on Ian’s part, but his love for Sharon far outweighed his business relationship with Max. For Ian that was a sacrifice worth making – whether he did the right thing or not, then things have just snowballed from there!’
We’ve already seen Tina (Luisa Bradshaw-White) arrested for attacking Ian, but does he really know who attacked him?
Adam added: ‘Well, he believes he knows yes – straight away a name comes to mind but whether Ian is right is another matter. And let’s be honest, there seems to be quite a few people he has got on the wrong side recently.’
Ian turned nasty in the run up to his attack, and wasn’t afraid to say what he thought of someone to their face. Now Ian is in hospital and with his condition currently unknown, Adam said the attack may be a wake up call for Ian.
‘If he pulls through, I think it will have to be – what more of a wake up call could he need! As he realises that there are a fair few people lining up to hurt him – I think he’ll start to connect the dots and see that what he was brushing off as non-important, isolated incidents were actually all connected and his actions and comments really do hurt people.
Especially his family, who he does really care for – just has a very funny way of showing it when he’s dug himself into a hole!’
