Strictly 2019: The line-up rumours from Harry Redknapp to Jodie Comer
As hard as it might be to believe, the 2019 series of Strictly Come Dancing is tantalisingly close – even though it only seems like five minutes since Stacey Dooley was crowned 2018 champion.
But with Motsi Mabuse having been installed as the new judge replacing Darcey Bussell on the panel, things are starting to fall into place for the forthcoming series – and that means speculation is mounting over who’ll be taking to the dancefloor this time around.
We have no idea yet when the contestants will be announced or who they will be, but in previous years the line-up has been revealed gradually over a couple of weeks in August.
Which means if the BBC decides to do the same thing this year we’re just a matter of weeks away from finding out who’ll be popping on those dancing shoes and keeping us entertained as the darker Saturday nights draw in this autumn.
And that also means there has been no shortage of speculation over who’ll be on this series – including this little lot for example…
Who could be taking part in Strictly Come Dancing 2019?
Here are the rumoured names so far…
Jodie Comer (6/4)
The Killing Eve actress is reportedly top of show bosses’ wishlists for the show – with Jodie even revealing that producers had spoken to her about taking part in the current series. ‘They were like “maybe next year Jodie?! and I was like “Mmm, no, I don’t think so!” I’d embarrass myself, definitely!’ she said.
Still, she’s been on their radar so we definitely shouldn’t rule it out – and who wouldn’t love to see Jodie take part, even if she does have to don a few more sequins than Villanelle is used to?
Adrian Dunbar (7/2)
Could Adrian Dunbar be about to swap Line of Duty for dancing duty with a spot in the Strictly line-up? The bookies seem to think so, offering odds of 7/2 on him taking part – although he’s yet to actually comment on the rumours himself.
Peter Crouch (7/2)
His missus Abbey Clancy is a former Strictly glitterball winner, back in 2013 – and now Peter Crouch is being tipped to follow in her footsteps and cha cha his way on to the dancefloor. Odds on him taking part have recently been slashed, even though he’s previously expressed concerns about the notorious ‘curse of Strictly’.
‘I was apprehensive and I remember going to the show where the dancers were picked for the celebrities and I was like, “Don’t get that handsome one” and then Aljaz came out,’ he recalled in 2018. ‘I was a bit disappointed but he was great and fair play to him, he came over to me and he loved football so we got on well in that way and they danced beautifully.’
Andy Murray (4/1)
With Judy Murray having taken to the dancefloor in 2014, speculation has always been rife that her former Wimbledon champion son could one day do the same – and those rumours are just refusing to go away. According to reports recently his odds of appearing on the show dropped after bookmakers were hit with a sudden wave of bets – so could it finally happen?
Alex Scott (11/2)
Strictly loves a good sports person. And Arsenal and England footballer Alex Scott would be no exception. She’s no stranger to the Strictly dancefloor either, having won the 2018 Sport Relief Strictly special – which promptly sparked rumours she would be part of the 2018 series. That didn’t happen but she’s still strongly fancied to be a part of things this year.
Sue Barker (6/1)
Sue’s been back on our screens recently fronting the BBC’s Wimbledon coverage – could a spot on Strictly be next? The bookies seem to think she’s in with a shout – and of course BBC presenters are always more than keen to give the tango a go.
Mrs Hinch (6/1)
With Joe Sugg having done so well in 2018, show bosses are reportedly looking to cleaning queen Mrs Hinch – aka Sophie Hinchcliffe – as their next big signing from the world of social media.
‘The country is obsessed with Mrs Hinch and they think she would be a perfect fit,’ a source told The Sun. ‘She has a great personality and is super glamorous too, so would be perfect in all the glitzy costumes.’
Huw Edwards (8/1)
Here is the news – Huw Edwards could be joining the Strictly crew. And he’s even spoken about the rumours suggesting he could hit the headlines on the dancefloor, saying that it would be difficult combining it with his day job – but that he hasn’t ruled it out.
‘In future, when my professional life might be in a different shape, maybe it would look like a different kind of challenge,’ he said. ‘Am I terrified by the thought of it? Yes. Do my kids want me to do it? No. All of these are different kinds of factors aren’t they?’
Dawn French (8/1)
This one might be a bit speculative, but the comedian has entered the betting after Kevin Clifton admitted she would be his ideal celebrity dance partner.
‘Speaking earlier this month to BBC Radio Solent, Kev admitted: ‘For some reason, I don’t know why…I just like the idea of it, I’d really love to do Strictly with Dawn French. I don’t know why – I think she would be wicked.’ So do we Kevin, so do we…
Harry Redknapp (10/1)
The I’m A Celebrity 2018 winner has revealed that he turned down a spot on Strictly to go into the jungle instead, saying: I told Jamie I was thinking of doing [Strictly] and I don’t think he was pleased about it. And so I was offered the jungle at the same time and chose to do that.’
Could a spot in the ballroom beckon this year, though? We’ll just have to wait and see.]
Keith Duffy 14/1
You can always rely on a good pop star or two to fill the Strictly ranks and this year Boyzone star Keith Duffy is on the predicted list. We can’t help thinking he’d be one to watch if the rumours turn out to be true.
Michelle Visage (16/1)
With RuPaul’s Drag Race headed to these shores, Michelle Visage is about to return to UK screens – and rumour has it a turn on Strictly could follow, in a bid to attract younger viewers. ‘This is a very strategic signing from the BBC as Michelle has a huge following, especially in the gay community,’ a source told The Sun.
‘Since she is know as the fiery judge on Drag Race producers are pre-empting her clapping back at any of the harsh comments from the Strictly panel, which will make great TV.’

Strictly Come Dancing 2019 kicks off on BBC One in the autumn.
