The competition is heating up on Strictly Come Dancing with Bill Bailey and Ranvir Singh giving favourites Maisie Smith and HRVY a run for their money. Looking forward to the final, Anton du Beke said he thinks it will be a great mix of ages but Maisie and HRVY will be hard to beat given how much they’re previous performances have impressed the judges.

Appearing on Steph’s Packed Lunch earlier in the week, Anton predicted who could lift the Glitterball Trophy this year.

Steph asked Anton: “I actually genuinely missed you from the show, but you were in the audience this time, weren’t you?”

“I was but I felt the saddest I’ve ever felt in my whole life,” the father-of-two replied.

“Because there aren’t any studio audience of course so the only people in the audience are the couples together around a little table, socially distanced from everyone else and then me…on my own at the back.

“Sat there going ‘Well done everyone.’ It’s like saying here you are, come – but you can’t join in.

“I sat beautifully; I feel like I should have been remarked on that alone. But it was brilliant, it was a great night.”

Turning to Saturday’s live performances, Anton shared his thoughts on who will make the final.

“I think the two youngsters will be in the final so HRVY and Maisie as they’ll be difficult to beat in the dance-off,” he declared.

“Bill is going tremendously and Ranvir is going tremendously and Max is doing well – and he got through last week, love it or hate it.

“They are all in with a very good shot. You just don’t want that week – that Star Wars week or that pastry week as that could be the end.”

While Anton thinks Bill, Ranvir, Max, HRVY and Maisie will make it to the final, bookies think JJ Chalmers will be booted out next.

His odds of being eliminated on Sunday evening have been cut to 5/4 while Jamie Laing is priced at 6/4.

Jessica O’Reilly of Ladbrokes said: “It’s a tight two-horse race between JJ and Jamie for this weekend’s eviction following Nicola’s unexpected exit on Thursday.”

She added: “At the moment the odds suggest the Scot will be waltzing out of the competition next.”

Meanwhile, at the other end of the betting, Maisie is still the favourite to be crowned champion with odds of 2/1 to lift the Glitterball Trophy.

It comes after Nicola Adams was forced to pull out of this year’s series when professional partner Katya Jones tested positive for Covid-19.

Nicola said of her departure: “I’m absolutely devastated my Strictly journey has come to an end so soon.

“I had so much more to give and so many people to win this for! But I just want to say a huge thank you to Katya for being the best dance partner anyone could ask for.

“She pushed me way out of my comfort zone and it’s been an incredible experience.

“I’m gutted to be out of the competition but in these unprecedented times and as frustrating as it is, the COVID measures in place are to keep everyone safe, and I’m doing what I can to help.”

Strictly Come Dancing continues on BBC One on Saturday at 7.10pm.
