Strictly's Adam Peaty reveals secret health fears after shock exit sparked backstage drama with partner Katya Jones

STRICTLY'S Adam Peaty has revealed his secret health fear after his shock exit sparked backstage drama with partner Katya Jones.

The Olympian, 26, was the sixth celebrity to be voted off the BBC dance competition over the weekend.

Yesterday the star revealed that his new book The Gladiator Mindset is available to buy this Thursday.

In an extract obtained by the Mirror, Adam admits that he thinks he could have autism.

Adam wrote: "One of my friends has got autism and we’re like, ‘Oh we’re very similar’, and I’m very single-minded on a task as well.”

He added: "Growing up in my household there were a few behavioural challenges among my siblings, but despite the chaos I wanted to work even harder.

"I haven’t been diagnosed but for certain I’m somewhere on the spectrum, as my mind is better able to focus when I’m moving or exercising."

The champion recently swapped the swimming pool for the dance floor to take part in the 19th series of Strictly Come Dancing.

The judges Adam and partner Katya Jones were awarded 27 points on Saturday night after their 50s-themed jive.

But sadly his time on the show came to an end after he lost out to a place in the programme following a close dance-off with Tilly Ramsay and Nikita Kuzmin on Sunday night.

Yesterday The Sun revealed that his dance partner Katya had a backstage meltdown moments before they were both booted off the programme.

The Russian pro dancer ranted about their low scores from the judges.

A TV insider said: “Katya was absolutely furious during filming not just because the dance hadn’t gone as well as they hoped but by the low marks they received.

“Both Katya and Adam were in tears after a week in which they’d thrown their all into getting the routine right.

“And though it hadn’t gone perfectly, both of them were shocked at being at the bottom of the scoreboard and finding themselves in the dance-off after the public vote. So getting shown the door on Sunday was utterly devastating.”

The pair's exit comes weeks after Adam appeared to "try to kiss" Katya live on TV.

Six early signs of autism in young children are:

  • not smiling
  • getting very upset with certain tastes or sounds
  • repetitive movements
  • not talking as much as other children
  • not making eye contact
  • not responding to their name.

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a lifelong developmental condition that affects how people perceive the world and interact with others.

It affects around one in 100 people in the UK and is three to four times more common in boys than in girls.

Many people with ASD find it hard to understand other people's feelings and emotions, and they may have difficulty holding conversations.

When they are young, their language development may take longer and they can struggle to use facial expressions, using gestures to communicate instead.

They may also find it hard to connect with other people and to hold eye contact with unfamiliar individuals.

Many children with ASD like to follow a routine, and changes to this can cause distress.

High functioning autism is an informal term some people use to describe those on the autism spectrum disorder.

Viewers of the BBC dance competition saw the dad-of-one "lean in" for a peck after their sizzling Argentine Tango.

It came just hours after Adam's girlfriend Eiri Munro uploaded a sexy selfie to Instagram and captioned it "not worried".

Days later Adam accused viewers of "getting carried away" after his "near-kiss" on Zoe Ball Breakfast Show on BBC Radio 2.

Adam and Eiri went official with their relationship back in 2020.

The couple welcomed their son George into the world in September last year.
