Strictly Come Dancing is back on BBC One on Saturday and the final hurdle is fast approaching. Musicals Week provides the couples with the ultimate opportunity to have fun and impress the judges with their entertainment skills. But professional dancer Gary Edwards believes AJ Odudu and Kai Widdrington could already be at risk.

AJ and Kai have become one of the most talked-about couples this series due to their intense chemistry.

From week one, the TV personality wowed the judging panel with her natural skill and ability to learn quickly.

She has continued to go from strength to strength and has nailed the characterisation in many dances.

Disaster struck last week during the Pasodoble and slipped during her routine.

Dancing With The Stars expert Gary Edwards, who has judged couples all over the world, said she has set herself an impossibly high standard.

Speaking to he said: “I think because of how spectacular they were.

“I sort of go back to maybe the Charleston and I think when someone does that, you’re like ‘OK, this is the launchpad’.

“I always like to look at couples and say how much have they improved since they started?

“I’ve always felt like there should be an award for the most-improved celeb rather than necessarily the best.

“If you have got someone who has done aerobics all their life or whatever, they have already got an idea of dancing.

“If you have got someone who has come out of nowhere and has made so much progress…

“I think with AJ she started at such a high level, where do you go with that?”

The pair found themselves at the bottom of the leaderboard but were saved by the public.

Gary said: “I gave them an eight but again I did agree with Shirley [Ballas] on one thing and totally disagreed on others.

“The side shaping I thought was excellent, I agreed with Anton [Du Beke] and Craig [Revel Horwood]. It lacked Paso character for me.

“I didn’t see Pasodoble in there, I saw some good shaping but that isn’t what makes a Paso.

“I didn’t see any character, I didn’t get the storyline, it was very unmemorable for me.

“I personally prefer a powerful, artistic Pasodoble, AJ didn’t give me any power. A very nervous performance overall.”

This weekend they will be performing a Waltz to Edelweiss from The Sound of Music.

AJ has been training non-stop and has been posting updates with Kai on her social media pages.

After last week’s result, she said: “So grateful for another opportunity to learn this week.

“We’re ready to bounce back.” The star has received plenty of support from her followers who say she is “constantly smashing it”.

This week, Gary will be looking out to see if she can raise the bar even higher following her great start in the competition.

If she is unable to give something more at this stage, she could be at risk of elimination.

Strictly Come Dancing returns to BBC One on Saturday at 6.35pm.
