The Pact season two is a possibility as the intense crime thriller has gone down a hit on BBC One. The murder mystery is due to come to a head on Tuesday night, June 1, and fans will undoubtedly be left wanting more. The TV show’s creator, Peter McTighe, spoke exclusively to Express.co.uk and other media about a second season.
Will there be another series of The Pact?
The Pact has been airing on Monday and Tuesday nights on BBC One, with the six-episode first season due to wrap up on Tuesday.
The series follows an investigation into the death of brewery boss, Jack Evans (Aneurin Barnard).
His colleagues become the main suspects and they come up with a dangerous pact to protect themselves.
Writer Peter McTighe said there could be scope to delve deeper into the series in the future, but a new story would need to be told.
He said: “What I really wanted to do with this show is to have a really strong payoff end resolution to the story.
“I didn’t want it to be a show that left audiences really hanging for answers and have to wait another year to figure out what happened.
“I think it’s a really satisfying resolution to the story. Having said that, I think there are plenty more stories we can tell under The Pact banner.
“But I think it just depends on how much audiences like the show and hopefully everyone watches it and wants more.”
The crime drama received mixed reviews after the first episodes, with some calling it slow and full of plotholes.
However, as the mystery unravelled, viewers found themselves engrossed in the web of secrets and lies.
They took to Twitter to praise the female-led cast and the riveting plot in the first season.
One fan said: “I think The Pact on BBC is one of the best tv shows I’ve watched in a long long time. The ending [heartbroken emoji].”
Another said: “I have to say, this has to be, if not, one of the best dramas. An outstanding cast of actors.
“More twists and turns than a rollercoaster. I’ve just watched the last episode on BBC I Player. Well done everyone involved in the making of this drama.”
The series stars Laura Fraser as Anna, the wife of police officer Max (Jason Hughes).
Other main characters include Nancy (Julie Hesmondhalgh), Cat (Heledd Gwynn), Louie (Eiry Thomas) and Arwel (Eddie Marsan).
All six episodes arrived on BBC iPlayer at the same time, following the release of the debut episode on BBC One.
While some fans have chosen to binge the whole series on the streaming service, others would rather wait for the drama to unfold each week.
This means that for some viewers, they have had to avoid spoilers online as the truth has been revealed about Jack.
Writer McTighe said he went as far as to create fake audition scenes during the early phases of production, as he was paranoid about spoilers.
He said: “In the very early stages of auditioning for some of the other characters I actually wrote fake audition scenes for them.
“Kind of key scenes for the show but changed loads of details so that the actors who were reading actually had no idea what was going on.”
With the mystery coming to an end during the season one finale, a second season would need to focus on an entirely new story.
With this in mind, there is no knowing whether the original cast would return, or whether new faces will appear.
The Pact continues on Monday night on BBC One at 9pm.
