Netflix series The Witcher first dropped in 2019 and was crowned one of the most-watched shows on the platform the same year. Taking pride of place over shows like Netflix’s top performer The Crown. Season two finally arrived in December this year after delays caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

WARNING: This article contains spoilers from The Witcher season 1

The Witcher takes its cue from the works of Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski, whose novels and short stories have spawned a highly successful computer game.

Prior to the TV show, The Witcher was adapted into a film in 2001.

Netflix had such confidence in the success of The Witcher, season two was given the green light even before the first series had been released.

Season two is in the works now with reports filming has now commenced on the next outing, which will pick up from the shocking conclusion in the finale.

Does Yennefer really love Geralt?

The Witcher threw up many questions but one of the most niggling among fans was whether Yennefer of Vengerberg (played by Anya Chalotra) was really in love with Geralt of Rivia (Henry Cavill).

Episode five of The Witcher saw Geralt and his friend Jaskier (Joey Batey) encounter a djinn trapped inside an amphora.

The episode was also the first time Geralt and Yennefer met in The Witcher after the two embarked on very different journeys.

The djinn gave three wishes which landed Geralt and Jaskier in trouble, requiring help from Yennefer.

Yennefer decided she was going to use djinn to help her have a child after she found out the process of becoming a mage and rendered infertile.

She broke the amphora which contained the djinn in order to become its new vessel but doing so could kill her.

After realising what she was doing, Geralt managed to stop her and use her wish.

He silently made a wish with the djinn vanishing into the ether with Yennefer safe.

The pair ended up passionately kissing before sleeping together with Yennefer seemingly forgetting what she’d been doing.

Nevertheless at the end of the episode, Yennefer seemed to realise she’d been tricked and was furious with Geralt.

She promptly up and left, leaving many fans asking about Geralt’s last wish.

Both in the show and the books, Geralt’s wish is unknown and it’s up to the fans to interpret what he may have asked for.

Geralt and Yennefer’s romance does seem to be a whirlwind but even before the final showdown, there’s simmering chemistry between the pair.

They even share a bath together and the sexual tension between them is evident.

Sadly, Yennefer was left fuming and believed she didn’t love Geralt and it was simply the djinn’s magic which was behind it.

Yennefer is said to be Geralt’s true love, so it would suggest their feelings are genuine.

Saying this, their romance will be a tumultuous one throughout The Witcher stories.
