The Marvel Cinematic Universe is on the lookout for new heroes and villains following Disney’s merger with Fox in 2019. With over five years as the warrior Bjorn Ironside under his belt and new series Heels coming this week on Starz, former Vikings star Alexander Ludwig could make a fine addition to the superpowered cast.
Alexander Ludwig recently spoke to Express.co.uk about his chances of joining Marvel’s ongoing series of TV shows and blockbuster films.
Following his stint as the son of Ragnar Lothbrok (played by Travis Fimmel), Ludwig is returning to screens this Sunday in Heels, a new wrestling drama from showrunner Michael Waldron.
Comic book aficionados will recognise Waldron’s name as the creator and writer behind Marvel’s recent smash hit Disney+ series, Loki.
He has also performed screenwriting duties for the MCU’s upcoming sequel, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, starring Benedict Cumberbatch and WandaVision’s Elizabeth Olsen.
Express.co.uk recently asked the Heels star if his work with the screenwriter could be his way into donning a cape in the near future.
The Canadian actor laughed and admitted: “I think one set of spandex is enough for me right now!”
“But we’ll see,” he then teased, leaving his options wide open.
In Heels, Ludwig portrays small town pro wrestler Ace Spade, who is convinced by his brother Jack (Stephen Amell) to ‘turn heel’, meaning to take on a more villainous role in the ring.
Taking on this complex new character meant swapping his sets of hefty Norse armour for a slightly skimpier affair, complete with a pair of tight-fitting, tiger print pants.
Despite his reservations about some of the Marvel cast’s questionable wardrobes, Ludwig would still be keen to sign up if the right part came along.
He went on: “If it’s a great role, 100 percent.
“For me that’s all I care about; telling good stories, being part of a great character.”

Fans who have grown up watching Ludwig’s career will know he has already built up considerable blockbuster pedigree.
The 29-year-old started his life as an actor in the popular young adult films The Seeker: The Dark Is Rising and Race to Witch Mountain.
He then received major recognition for his role as Cato in the first film of the highly successful Hunger Games series.
More recently, he starred alongside Will Smith and Martin Lawrence in the long-awaited sequel, Bad Boys For Life, and has several other major pictures to be released in the coming years.
For now, though, Ludwig is proud of what he’s already achieved as Ace Spade in the now acclaimed first season of Heels, which has all the early signs of a major hit for Starz.
He added: “I’m so fortunate to do what I love already, and if that meant in another world that would be awesome.
“I’m so grateful to even be a part of this show. Michael [Waldron] is an incredible writer.”
Hopefully Waldron’s commitments to the Marvel Multiverse don’t prevent him coming back for a second season of the new sports drama.
Still, if producer Kevin Feige calls him back for the second outing of Loki, or even another round of mystical mayhem with Doctor Strange, Waldron’s new series co-lead could be along for the ride.
Heels premieres on Sunday, August 15 on Starz in the US and on STARZPLAY in the UK. Vikings seasons 1-6 are available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.
