What happened to the stars of Roseanne – from a tragic heroin overdose to 'incest survivor' accusations and divorces
FROM divorces to homelessness – here we find out where the cast of the beloved 80s and 90s sitcom Roseanne is now.
Popular series Roseanne was known for its portrayal of working-class Americans and strong women.
The cast and storylines became famous as the show tackled gay characters and the AIDS crisis of the late-80s and early-90s.
Roseanne quickly became the number-one show on American with 21.4 million viewers tuning in for its premiere.
Roseanne had many successes including four Emmys, 27 nominations, three Golden Globes and was rebooted with the tenth season in 2018.
But what did the show's biggest stars do next?
Roseanne was a comedian before she shot to stardom when the sitcom began in 1988.
She divorced her first husband, former motel clerk Bill Pentland when the show was at its peak in 1990.
Her memorable performance at the nationally televised baseball match in San Diego, saw her deliver a screechy off-pitch tone, before grabbing her crotch and spitting.
President George HW Bush called it "disgraceful".
Rosanne had her first child at seventeen and gave it up for adoption, but they were reunited years later when Roseanne was famous.
She had a troubled relationship with her own parents as she frequently ran away from home and accused them of molesting her as a child, so she called herself an incest survivor.
Her parents denied the allegations and passed a lie detector test on Oprah Winfrey's show before Roseanne admitted it was "made up".
Roseanne was fired due to her racist tweets about Valerie Jarrett, a black former Barack Obama adviser.
John was already famous before he starred in the sitcom as he acted in the Talking Heads comedy True Stories and in the Coen Brothers' Raising Arizona alongside Nicholas Cage.
Goodman played Roseanne's embattled, underemployed husband Dan and won a Golden Globe for his role in the 2018 reboot of the show.
The Monsters Inc star has been sober since 2007 and lost almost 50kg of weight in the past decade.
His daughter works in production in Hollywood.
John now plays the lead in the Roseanne spinoff The Conners, which stars most of the original cast with the exception of Barr.
Michael played Roseanne and Dan's youngest son starting on the show at just six years old.
Now thirty-nine, he still plays DJ Conner on spinoff The Conners.
However, his life has been far more tragic than the scripted TV show, as he lost his eldest son Larry to a drug overdose in June 2020.
He said: "I feel like I came to Larry, maybe later than I wish I could. And I think for parents, you know, you wish you had more time.
"You don't always get the time that you want."
He also has a daughter Isabelle and son Aaron with ex-wife Jennifer Briner, who he divorced in 2017.
The Dublin-born actor moved to Hollywood at just eighteen.
His handsome looks landed him roles in Pepsi and Ray-Ban adverts.
He got his big break when he acted alongside John Travolta and debutant Gwyneth Paltrow in 1991's Shout.
Even though the film flopped, Glenn shared a kiss with Gwyneth in her first film role.
He was cast as Becky Conner's love interest Mark Healy in Roseanne.
His American accent was so convincing that people couldn’t believe he was Irish.
However, Glenn struggled with drug addiction his whole adult life as he starting using at just seventeen.
After experiencing homelessness, he tragically died of a heroin overdose in 2002.
The fourth episode of the show's tenth season was dedicated in Quinn's memory.
Sara played the Conners' bright daughter Darlene and also starred in the hit comedy series The Big Bang Theory.
She dated Big Bang Theory co-star Johnny Galecki but realised she was a lesbian during their teenage romance.
The actress and producer was married to singer Linda Perry from 2014 to 2019 and also dated Canadian writer Ali Adler for a decade, separating in 2011.
She has three children and came out in 2010 saying: “I just think I am who I am, and when topics come up that are appropriate, I’ll talk about them and share when it seems right.”
Sara continues to star as middle child Darlene in The Conners and is also an executive producer on the show.
Sarah was the second actress to play Becky Conner on Roseanne.
Her son Charlie was born in 2009 with a rare illness called Kawasaki disease.
Sarah also appeared in the medical drama Grey's Anatomy.
She has starred in shows including Scrubs and Friends From College and now voices Beth Smith in the hit Adult Swim animated series Rick & Morty.
Laurie played Roseanne's sister Jackie and won three consecutive Emmys.
She is also known for her role as Andy’s mum in the Toy Story films.
She married actor Jeff Perry in the 1980s but then remarried in the 1990s to co-star Matt Roth while they worked together on the show.
Laurie gained Oscar and BAFTA nominations for her acclaimed role in the 2018 coming-of-age film Lady Bird.
