Who won Strictly Come Dancing 2021?

AFTER 14 nail-bitting weeks, the final of Strictly Come Dancing 2021 was finally upon us and after plenty of tangos, tens and tears, only one couple could claim the famous Glitterball trophy

Rose Ayling-Ellis and her dance partner Giovanni Pernice and John Whaite along with Johannes Radebe went head-to-head in the grand finale – but who came out on top as strictly 2021 winner?

Who won Strictly Come Dancing 2021?

EastEnders star Rose Ayling-Ellis won Strictly Come Dancing 2021, beating John Whaite and his partner Johannes Radebe in the grand final.

Rose' win meant she became the first ever deaf person to win on the show, with the pair scoring two-perfect scores during the final.

Speaking after their win, Giovanni praised the "incredible" woman who made all his "dreams come true", dubbing her a "dream".

Rose herself was almost lost for words and called her partner an "incredible teacher and wonderful friend" and said that the Italian pro would always have a "part of my heart".

For Giovanni, his win now means that Italy have won this, Bake Off 2021, the 100 metres and the high jump at the Olympics, Euro 2020, and the winner of the Eurovision Song Contest – not a bad year to be Italian.

What happened in the Strictly 2021 final?

During the final, the contestants were tasked with performing two of their previously seen routines.

The first performance was the Quickstep during musical’s week which was picked by the judges after they spotted a few errors in the piece.

The second routine was the breathtaking couple's choice which the 27-year-old winner and her partner Giovanni selected after it stole the hearts of the nation during week nine.

They ended the show with an epic dance which combined all of the skills the pair have learnt over the course of the show into one mind-blowing number.

This year's final was regarded as one of the best ever series and had watching fans split over choice between Rose and John.

AJ Odudu was also meant to be in the final with her first-time professional dance partner Kai Widdrington, however the pair were forced to drop out of the show just days away from the final after the AJ tore a ligament in her foot.

It was the first time in the history of the show that there was only two contestants battling it out to take home the glitterball trophy.

With that being said, both pairings put on a huge showdown to cap off what was a frantic finale in which Rose and Giovanni came out on top.
