Emmerdale fans got a shock tonight when Leanne Cavanagh (played by Mimi Slinger) was brutally murdered. The death has meant that star Mimi Slinger has left the show for good. But why did the star decide to leave the ITV series?

Why did Leanna Cavanagh leave Emmerdale?

Emmerdale had two back-to-back episodes tonight (July 8) which ended with the death of Leanne Cavanagh.

Meena Jutla (Paige Sandhu) dealt the killing blow to Leanne, pushing her over a bridge.

The aftermath of the murder will be fully explored in tomorrow’s episode – Friday, July 9.

Mimi Slinger has released a statement on leaving the series and has explained why she decided to walk away from the show.

The star said that “it has been so difficult to keep the secret,” adding that it was something she has been waiting to tell people for some time.

The reason Slinger has left the show is because she wanted to “pursue other opportunities,” but she didn’t know how Leanne would be written out of the show.

Slinger explained: “I had taken the decision to leave the Dales and I was so looking forward to hearing how the producers were going to engineer my exit.

“When Jane Hudson told me about my storyline, I have to say that I was shocked but so excited to be given the opportunity to be challenged and show my acting abilities.

“Of course, it is a very sad storyline and has been very emotional for me!”

Slinger has been a key member of the cast since joining the series in 2018 and her character’s death will have a major impact on the series.

She will be missed by fans, proving herself to be a fan-favourite in the show.

The star explained just how important the fans and community around Emmerdale have been for her and added how much she would miss the show.

“I will miss the community more than anything. Everyone is so friendly and it has been such a fantastic few years,” Slinger continued.

When asked what her plans are for the future beyond Emmerdale, Slinger said that she “definitely wants to keep acting” but she did acknowledge that the “industry is very uncertain.”

She continued: “I am very keen to pursue other acting opportunities. Fingers crossed for anything in the pipeline.

“I definitely want to keep acting, I absolutely love it and can’t see myself not doing it! I would love to do something with my music too, as I am a singer and songwriter.

“I have also recently started modelling and have already done some fantastic, fun jobs. I do love it and am learning a lot.”

Slinger clearly has big plans moving forward, a potential singing career on the horizon.

For Emmerdale fans, all the details of Leanne’s murder will be revealed in Friday night’s episode, which will air at 7pm on ITV.

In a teaser for the next episode, ITV revealed Leanne’s lifeless body will be discovered by the police.

The investigation will ripple through the town, with there being no doubt that the drama surrounding her murder is only just beginning.

Emmerdale is available to watch on ITV and ITV Hub.
