FRED Sirieix is stepping out of his comfort zone in a brand new documentary that sees him placed behind bars – but for a very good cause.

The star of First Dates is swapping the glitz and glam of the high-end restaurants he is used to for HMP Lincoln's eatery, Bertie's.

It is all part of a brand new documentary in association with the Ministry of Justice and will launch on their YouTube channel.

The programme will see Fred and his charity The Right Course training the prisoners how to work sufficiently in a restaurant environment.

As part of this exclusive training, the prisoners gain industry-recognised City & Guilds Level 2 qualifications which will better their chance in employment once they are out of the prison system.

It is the latest initiative seeking to get more prisoners out of crime and into work on release, given that employment can reduce the risk of reoffending significantly, by up to nine per cent.

The documentary, entitled Served, will air on YouTube and follows the journey of the prisoners under Fred's watchful eye.

In the show, Fred teaches his tricks of the trade to the lucky few as they do their best to impress him and hone their own skills.

Speaking of working on the show, Fred said: “Providing the cohort at HMP Lincoln with the right skills, experience and qualifications to enter the hospitality industry enables a greater chance of them securing meaningful, long-term employment.

"We want to shine a light on how to help offenders rebuild their confidence and secure job opportunities upon release, with the support of industry experts."

</picture>ISLE SCORE

</picture>EXCITING NEWS

</picture>SCHOFE SURFACES

</picture>STEPPING UP

The 37-minute documentary sheds light on the experiences of the men working at the restaurant and the prison and charity staff supporting their learning.

Since filming in May, one of the prisoners featured in the documentary has already secured a job in the industry since his release.

Speaking of what being involved meant to them, one of the prisoners said: “For me it’s exciting because it’s different from what I’ve been used to.

"Within two years, I hope to be a manager. I’m excited about the chance of progression.”

Located in the Visits Room, Bertie’s also offers well-behaved prisoners the opportunity to dine with their families during visits, allowing them to experience the dual roles of being both staff and customers.

Matt Spencer, the HMP Lincoln Governor added of the unique partnership with Fred and his charity: “I am delighted that we are working closely with The Right Course and Fred Sirieix. Allowing some of our prisoners to eat in the restaurant with their families will build or rebuild family ties.

"Providing vocational training and work experience will lead to good quality jobs on their release and reduce their risk of reoffending.”

Served airs on the Ministry of Justice YouTube channel from today at 12pm.

Read More on Fred Sirieix
