Hollywood star Keira Knightley is considering copyrighting her face to stop AI thieves using her without permission in films.

The Pirates of the Caribbean star is worried about the rise in artificial intelligence and is considering to take steps to protect her likeness in the future.

The mum-of-two said: "At the moment for actresses the concern is about the voice, and they’re trying to protect the voice-over industry.

"I don’t know where that’s at, but I know that’s in negotiation. But the next step will be to copyright my face. AI has the potential to be catastrophic. I hope governments come in and regulate it."

Keira also called for better internet and social media regulation, admitting she finds platforms such as Instagram "chilling" and she’s worried they could have a damaging influence on her daughters as they get older.

She said: "I'm a big one for internet regulation too – a 100%.

"Social media needs to be regulated. I’m not on it, but I’ve got two girls and it’s chilling – I want them to be able to use that space to connect and be creative, but in a safe way."

Keira has previously gone as far as to use body doubles to take her place in nude scenes after giving birth to her two daughters, Edie and Delilah.

The Never Let Me Go star has no nudity clauses added to her acting contracts, and refuses to strip off on-screen.

But there’s one exception to the rule.

If a film has female filmmaker at the helm, Keira says she’ll bend her own rules and let the cameras see a little more than they’re used to.

Speaking on the Chanel Connects podcast, Keira confessed: “It’s partly vanity and also it’s the male gaze.

“I don't want it to be those horrible sex scenes where you're all greased up and everybody is grunting. I'm not interested in doing that. I feel very uncomfortable now trying to portray the male gaze.

"I'm too vain and the body has had two children now and I'd just rather not stand in front of a group of men naked."
