GMB: Maureen Lipman gives Kate soup<\/h3>\n

Coronation Street star Maureen Lipman appeared on Good Morning Britain on Friday and she brought a very special gift for presenter Kate Garraway, who was clearly taken aback by the gesture.<\/p>\n

The 77-year-old, who plays Evelyn Plummer in the ITV soap, presented the host with a tub of her own homemade chicken soup which she decreed was a \u201cuniversal panacea.\u201d<\/p>\n

She was on the show to discuss winning the Best Comedy Performance at the upcoming Inside Soap awards when she digressed to give Kate the thoughtful homemade gift.<\/p>\n

\u201cI brought you this. That\u2019s my chicken soup. That\u2019s my breaking-the-fast chicken soup. That\u2019s for you to give to Derek,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

As Kate gasped appreciatively she made a cheeky revelation saying: \u201cThere was a lot more but I spilt it on the dressing room floor.\u201d<\/p>\n

Declaring it a \u201cuniversal panacea\u201d she said, \u201cIt can cure it really can, I ate only that when I had Covid,\u201d she revealed.<\/p>\n

Kate\u2019s husband of 18 years Derek Draper suffered a rare and complicated health battle after Covid-19 left him in hospital for more than a year.<\/p>\n

Kate provided updates on his condition throughout the pandemic and has since made a documentary about what life is like looking after him as well as campaigning for carer\u2019s rights.<\/p>\n

Although he is now living back at home with Kate and their two children, Darcy and Billy, in March she explained that he is still “very damaged”.<\/p>\n

Speaking to Giovanna Fletcher on Walt Disney Travel Company\u2019s podcast Journey to the Magic she revealed: “It is challenging, he’s still very, very damaged.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe still can’t really move, still can’t really speak, still fed through tubes, and so there’s a long road ahead.<\/p>\n

“It’s just, you just want it to be quicker and faster, of course, like everybody would.<\/p>\n

“But it’s a challenging one – he spent most of last year in the hospital as well for various different things, so it was lovely to have him home.”<\/p>\n

“But if you compare to last Christmas or the Christmas before, when he was still in hospital then you can see improvement.<\/p>\n
