A tweet that has been viewed over 18million times has reminded everyone of a relationship Jerry Seinfeld had with a teenager when he was 38.<\/p>\n
The actor and comedian, now 69, is best known for playing a fictional version of himself in the American sitcom\u00a0Seinfeld\u00a0between 1989 and 1998, which he created and wrote with Larry David.<\/p>\n
Back in the early 1990s, the TV star once dated a 17-year-old, it was later revealed, with a former classmate of hers now bringing attention to the matter once more.<\/p>\n
They responded to a tweet reading: \u2018Which celebrity interaction was \u201cthe incident\u201d at your high school?\u2019<\/p>\n
Their quote tweet said: \u2018When I was in high school 38 year old Jerry Seinfeld was dating a girl in my year and he picked her up from class during 4th period and she got to skip Mr Solinski\u2019s calculus exam (I got a 93\/100)\u2019.<\/p>\n
Alongside the tweet was a black and white photo of Seinfeld and the girl in question, taken from a magazine.<\/p>\n

A quote from Seinfeld next to the image read: \u2018I don\u2019t think about the age issue, she doesn\u2019t, my friends don\u2019t.\u2019<\/p>\n
In the replies, Twitter users were stunned.<\/p>\n
\u2018It\u2019s really wild how prevalent these kinds of relationships were until SO recently! I can\u2019t even remember all the many, many 30+ yo celebrities who were in relationships with teenage girls\u2019, one person wrote.<\/p>\n
\u2018I remember when this happened & don\u2019t think for a second that a lot of women weren\u2019t grossed out by this. I never looked at Seinfeld the same after this\u2019, another said.<\/p>\n
\u2018Amazing how Jerry Seinfeld was able to get away with dating a teenager in the 90s\u2019, one person wrote.<\/p>\n
The girl Seinfeld dated was named Shoshanna Lonstein.<\/p>\n
Initially, they claimed they were just friends before it later surfaced that they were romantically involved.<\/p>\n
Seinfeld replied: \u2018She\u2019s not 17, definitely not.\u2019<\/p>\n
However, in a later appearance on Stern\u2019s show, he appeared to contradict what he said the last time.<\/p>\n
\u2018I didn\u2019t realise she was so young,\u2019 he said. \u2018This is the only girl I ever went out with who was that young. I wasn\u2019t dating her. We just went to a restaurant, and that was it.\u2019<\/p>\n

Fast forward a few years and Seinfeld once again defended his romane with Lonstein.<\/p>\n
He said he is \u2018not an idiot\u2019 and described Lonstein as \u2018a person, not an age.\u2019<\/p>\n
\u2018She is extremely bright. She\u2019s funny, sharp, very alert,\u2019 he said. \u2018We just get along. You can hear the click.\u2019<\/p>\n
He also told\u00a0Playboy that when he \u2018likes someone\u2019 he \u2018doesn\u2019t care\u2019 about her \u2018race, creed, or national origin\u2019 as he doesn\u2019t \u2018discriminate\u2019.<\/p>\n
\u2018If she\u2019s 18, if she\u2019s intelligent, that\u2019s fine,\u2019 he declared.<\/p>\n
Following their separation, Seinfeld said he and Lonstein were \u2018very much in love.\u2019<\/p>\n
But he said the \u2018timing wasn\u2019t right.\u2019<\/p>\n
\u2018I almost got married to Shoshanna,\u2019 he said. <\/p>\n

Lonstein had enrolled at college at the time.<\/p>\n
As for Seinfeld, he is now married to Jessica Seinfeld, 52, and has been since 1999.<\/p>\n
He met the author at a sports club in 1998 before she married her first husband Eric Nederlander that June.<\/p>\n
She and Nederlander divorced in October 1998 after four months of marriage, with Seinfeld proposing to her in November the following year.<\/p>\n
They married on Christmas Day 1999 with comedian George Wallace as best man.<\/p>\n
Speaking about her relationship with Seinfeld, Jessica previously said: \u2018I met Jerry at the end of what was the most difficult period of my life. <\/p>\n
\u2018I had just made a painful decision to dissolve a five-year relationship that began when I was 21 and culminated in a brief marriage. <\/p>\n
