This Morning left viewers feeling uneasy during Friday’s episode with the reporting of the tragic Croydon stabbing followed by the Sycamore Gap tree.

Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary, as usual, discussed the latest headlines with Gyles Brandreth and Vanessa Feltz, with guest Julia Bradbury on video link.

The segment began talking about the death of 15-year-old schoolgirl Elianne Andam, who was fatally stabbed, allegedly while trying to protect a friend from her knife-wielding ex-boyfriend.

She is said to have tried to stop the teenager attacking her pal after he attempted to give her flowers and a love note on the bus.

Addressing the horrific incident, Gyles described it as ‘heartbreaking.’

‘This rise of knife crime is so distressing, but here we are reminded of how it has hurt, well, broken this family,’ he said.
