Workers across the UK could be set for a huge pay rise.

Millions of Brits could be eligible for a salary increase. Currently the National Living Wage is £10.42 an hour, but it's set to rise.

It's believed Chancellor Jeremy Hunt will confirm a money increase to at least £11 an hour, reports BBC. The new amount would come into place next April.

It's said Mr Hunt would confirm the news in a speech at the Conservative Party conference on Monday (October 2) in Manchester.

It is estimated increasing the National Living Wage could benefit 2million of the lowest-paid workers in Britain. Mr Hunt also plans to toughen sanctions for those on benefits who do not attempt to find themselves work.

The Tories said an increase to £11 an hour would mean the annual earnings of someone who works full-time would go up by £1,000 annually.

BBC reports Mr Hunt is expected to say in the conference: "Since we introduced [the National Living Wage], nearly 2m people have been lifted from absolute poverty.

"That's the Conservative way of improving the lives of working people. Boosting pay, cutting tax."
