A mom’s ambition to dress her kids in a terrifying costume turned into a bloody disaster.<\/p>\n
Jessica Jovel’s twins are now old enough to choose their own costumes, but in a TikTok video the mom couldn’t help but look back on a time when her twin girls were infants – and she decided to dress them up as little mummies.<\/p>\n
The mom-of-three shared her horror in a resurfaced video, realizing after she dressed her baby girls, Arla and Ayla, up in their costume, they didn’t so much resemble an undead human – but more so tiny little tampons.\u00a0<\/p>\n
‘It did not turn out as we expected,’ she admitted in the caption. ‘I was terrified.’<\/p>\n

While tampons may not be a popular costume, there are plenty of fun outfits to choose from for Halloween 2023 – although it does come with a price.<\/p>\n
Halloween just got a little more scary this year with the cost of the holiday expected to reach an all-time high,\u00a0as per the National Retail Federation’s annual survey.<\/p>\n
Festivities across the US is expected to total about $12.2 billion in 2023, with more Americans than ever expected to reach into their wallets and spend a record amount of money over the\u00a0 spooky season.<\/p>\n

The survey found that a huge 73 per cent of respondents will participate in Halloween-related activities this year, up from 69 per cent in 2022.<\/p>\n
The money spent on costumes for adults, children and pets have reached an all-time high of $4.1 billion – which is nearly a billion dollars more than pre-pandemic costume spending.<\/p>\n
Individually spending is also up, with consumers planning on spending a record\u00a0$108.24 each – up from the previous record of $102.74 in 2021.<\/p>\n
Popular chain Spirit Halloween says current movies and pop-culture moments help determine the most popular costumes.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Barbie, which was the highest-grossing movie of 2023, will likely be a very popular costume this year, with about 1.8 billion people predicted to dress up as one of the iconic dolls.<\/p>\n
‘Social media continues to grow as a source of costume inspiration for younger consumers, as more people under 25 are turning to TikTok, Pinterest and Instagram for ideas,’ Prosper Insights & Analytics’s executive vice president of strategy Phil Rist said.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
