After six nail biting weeks on our screens, Celebrity Race Across the World finally came to its jaw dropping conclusion, with Alex Beresford taking home the coveted win with his dad Noel.

The duo were the first to arrive at the final checkpoint in Tromso, Norway, with the delighted pair clearly overwhelmed with emotion as they celebrated their impressive accomplishment with a series of warm embraces.

Hot on their heels however were McFly star Harry Judd and his mum Emma, who finished just four minutes behind the pair, with All Saints star Melanie Blatt and her mum Helene taking home the third place title.

Unfortunately, Billy Monger and his sister Bonny failed to complete the race, as they pulled out of the final leg of the competition due to a family emergency which required that they return home immediately.

Following his unexpected win, Good Morning Britain weatherman Alex told viewers: “We’ve been fully consumed by the race, and anything that has been happening in the outside world has been so far away, and that’s probably a good thing. You can’t dwell on things, you have to move on mentally so that you can move on physically, so I feel great about that.”

Alex, who famously once found himself at the heart of an on air dispute which resulted in Piers Morgan storming off set, admitted that the race process had allowed him to see things differently thanks to the challenge.

“I feel like I’ve readjusted,” said Alex. “I’ve never taken this amount of time off of work before, the race has challenged my routine and I definitely think I have become more open minded, it’s been nice to let my hair down, so to speak.”

During the show, the celebrity teams were taken all over the world, with their journey taking them to the Alps, Marrakech and Scandinavia in the hopes of reaching the crucial checkpoints in time.

Early favourites to win the show, Harry and his mum Emma were a big hit with fans at home, with Billy and Bonny even confessing they felt they were this biggest threat to them during the competition.

Billy said: "They’ve just been at the top from the get-go and they’ve been right in the mix," whilst Noel Beresford, Alex’s father, also agreed, adding: "I always had my eye on Harry and Emma.”

Prior to their win on the final instalment of the series, Alex revealed that winning the show would be the “icing on the cake” after a tremendous journey which had brought him and his dad closer together.

"The race can be won in many ways. We’ve all experienced coming in last, missed buses and coaches. Your fortune can change in a second. Winning the race would be the icing on the cake, but the ingredients of the race is the bigger win,” admitted the star.

Although Harry and Emma came in a commendable second place, Harry confessed that he still felt like a winner, even before the final result had been revealed.

He said: "I feel like it’s anyone’s game. I love winning. But this time it feels different, because I’m with Mum, it feels like we’ve already won.”

It was a sentiment which was echoed by his mum following their last minute defeat as she told viewers: “It wasn’t about winning the race, it was about the journey we’ve been on. I know I’ve done my best. It doesn’t matter where we come, we’ve had the most amazing, incredible journey."
