At this year’s Japan Mobility Show, Honda Motor Co., Ltd’s Director and President, Toshihiro Mibe, unveiled a variety of new concepts, including a revival of the 90s era Prelude.

He shared the “Prelude Concept will take the ‘joy of driving’ into the full-fledged electrified future. I have introduced some of the mobility products that embody Honda‘s dreams, which represent the Honda of today and the future. But we know our customers are expecting one more thing from Honda, and that is sports models.”

Classified by Mibe as a “specialty sports model,” the electrified Prelude concept appears to take inspiration from the automaker’s fourth and fifth-generation Preludes, which were manufactured between 1991 to 2001. Notably, with its classification as a “specialty sports model” in mind, the fifth-generation Japanese-exclusive Type S Prelude might also have been a significant inspiration for the vehicle.

“Honda has always been committed to creating sporty vehicles. The word ‘prelude’ means an ‘introductory or preceding performance.’ This model will become the prelude for our future models which will inherit the ‘joy of driving’ into the full-fledged electrified future and embody Honda’s unalterable sports mindset,” shared Mibe.

While technical details on the concept are scarce at the time of writing, Mibe did share that development on the concept is largely underway and that fans can keep their expectations high for the end results.
