TWO hugely popular celebrity game shows – The Weakest Link and Celebrity Mastermind – are returning to the BBC later this month.

Both shows finished up their most recent seasons in April this year and after months away are set to return to BBC One with brand new episodes.

The Weakest Link will be the first to return, coming back to BBC One Saturday 18th November at 5:55pm.

Comedian Romesh Ranganathan will return to host the show.

This is now his third season of The Weakest Link. In the past, each season has comprised 8 episodes and four themed specials, so audiences can expect more of the same.

As usual, each episode will welcome a group of eight celebrities who are asked general knowledge questions which they must answer correctly to remain in the game.

When he began hosting the series, Romesh, 45, praised his predecessor Anne Robinson, who hosted The Weakest Link from 2000 to 2012.

He said: “Anne was an amazing host and to step into her shoes is an anxiety-inducing privilege.

“I’m hoping we’ve found a way to make both the fans of the show happy as well as bringing a new audience to it.”

Anne, 79, also celebrated the new series, but admitted it would be a “very different” show to the one she hosted while speaking on Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour.

“I think it’s quite clever to have a guy doing it, a comedian whose approach will be very different to mine,” she added.

The series continues to be filmed in Glasgow and will return to its prime time slot in less than two weeks.

New episodes of Celebrity Mastermind will follow a week later with the first episode coming to BBC One on Friday 24th November at 8pm.

Clive Myrie returns to screens to helm the long-running quiz show, having also taken over the role of host in 2021.

At the time, the 59-year-old BBC newsreader and presenter said: “What a privilege it is to take on this new role.

“Mastermind with Magnus Magnusson formed the backdrop to my youth, and now to be at the helm is a dream come true. I’m excited and can’t wait to get stuck in.”

For Celeb Mastermind, 2023 brings a new group of 56 celebs.

The show spans over 14 weeks, during which time the celebs will take on the famous black chair with their chosen specialist subjects.

Among the stars joining the series this year are actor and comedian Bobby Davro; TV cook Suzie Lee; former Olympic skier Graham Bell; and BBC Radio 1Xtra DJ Remi Burgz.

They will answer questions on their respective specialist subjects, including: Gilbert O’Sullivan, Bridget Jones, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and salmon.

As well as competing for a coveted Celebrity Mastermind trophy, the celebrities are all raising money for their chosen charity.

</picture>HIT THE DECK
