A CHRISTMAS market "mystery" chocolate has left "kids' eyeballs popping out their heads" as parents have revealed horror symptoms.

Shocked parents said their children fell ill after ingesting the Cali-Gold chocolate bar sold at a festive market in Nottinghamshire.

The chocolate comes in a gold foil wrapper, with a peach and yellow card outer layer.

The packaging says is from Venice, California, and is organic and fair trade.

The product was being sold at Christmas stalls at the Mansfield Market.

But after ten people fell ill, the Food Standards Agency urged to "not eat" the 70 per cent dark chocolate.

A shocked dad has now revealed the horrible symptoms his children experienced after biting the chocolate bar.

He told the Mansfield Chad : "The kids had four or six squares and then half an hour later, they started to go funny.

"My youngest son was affected the worse. All four of my kids had their eyes popping out their heads, felt sick and giddy.

"I phoned the paramedics and they came out and rushed my youngest into A&E because of his symptoms."

The Nottinghamshire Police are investigating the reports and have linked the chocolate with banned drugs.

Detective Inspector Luke Todd said: "Tests are in the process of being carried out but at present there is no evidence to support claims that the chocolate bars contained any illicit drugs.

“A 63-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of administering a noxious substance and is assisting the police with our ongoing inquiries.

"The chocolate bars were reportedly sold in the orange ‘Cali-Gold’ boxes and golden wrappers pictured on Saturday (25 November) in Mansfield Market.

"Anyone who bought any of this chocolate or recognises the packaging in these images is asked to contact Nottinghamshire Police immediately on 101, quoting incident 180 of 26 November 2023.”

Head of Incidents from the Food Standards Agency Tina Potter added: “We are working with local authorities, the UK Health Security Agency and Nottinghamshire Police to investigate an incident following reports of illness after eating 'Cali-Gold' chocolate.

"If you have purchased ‘Cali-Gold’ chocolate from Mansfield Market in Nottinghamshire, you should not consume the product or give it to anyone else, and should hand it to the police.

"If you have already eaten it and developed symptoms, then you should urgently seek medical attention from your GP or walk in centre.”

It comes as another dad told NottinghamshireLive that he, his daughter, his two nephews, his niece and two of her friends had all eaten the chocolate.

He said it "instantly" made several of them feel ill and "like they were on drugs".

The parent later added that his nephew had been taken to hospital, and that he had had other messages about people being unwell after consuming the sweet treat.

Two weeks ago, a woman, believed to be from Mansfield, claimed that she and her husband had both fallen seriously ill and been admitted to A&E after eating organic chocolate from a gold packet.

In a YouTube video, she said her partner was hallucinating and acting drunk, and she felt delirious, was vomiting and fainting.

It is not known if they ate Cali-Gold chocolate.

</picture>HAIR RAISING
