ITV bosses are said to be on "high alert" as a tropical cyclone could wreak havoc on the I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! camp this weekend.

A category three storm, Cyclone Jasper, is currently building up off Australia’s Queensland coast and is set to hit land at the weekend, putting the I'm A Celeb annual cyclone challenge at risk.

The final four campmates are set to face the iconic Celebrity Cyclone trial on Saturday, with production now said to be concerned over the predicted 130mph winds and heavy rain.

This isn't the first time this year that the I'm A Celeb camp has been hit by adverse weather conditions with many of the celebrities commenting on the miserable weather on-screen.

As Cyclone Jasper approaches, a show insider told The Sun: "Production are aware of the threat and the safety of the celebrities is their priority. ITV are watching Cyclone Jasper very closely.

"The timing could not be more apt, as the cyclone is on course to hit when the stars are taking on that very challenge. This year the celebs have had to endure pretty horrible weather and just as the sun started to shine, it’s all going south again.

"ITV are ready for any eventuality but, ultimately, Cyclone Jasper could be an absolute nightmare and wreak havoc. The team are watching and waiting with bated breath."

OK! have contacted ITV for comment.

This isn't the first time this year that the weather has sparked concern among production staff, with storms on 29 November sparking worries that the camp would have to be evacuated.

And if the camp is indeed evacuated when Cyclone Jasper hits this weekend it wouldn't be the first time production staff have had to take action amid strong weather coming in, as the Aussie camp was evacuated back in 2015.

At the time, thunder, lightning and torrential rain poured into the jungle and meant that the stars' safety could have been at risk.

The bad weather also meant cameras and lighting used on the show lost power for a few hours. Celebs took shelter in the Bush Telegraph before returning to camp later.

What's more, when the show was filmed in Gwrych Castle in North Wales in 2021, the celebs were forced to completely leave the area and stay in nearby guest houses when the weather played havoc with the set.

While the rest of the campmates gear up ahead of the tropical storm, one campmate who is safely back in the UK for its wintry cold snap is food critic Grace Dent, 50.
