Pogues<\/b> frontman Shane MacGowan<\/b>‘s cause of death has been revealed.<\/p>\n
MacGowan died due to complications of viral encephalitis and pneumonia, according to his wife Victoria Mary Clarke<\/b>.<\/p>\n
Clarke revealed the news to the New York Times<\/i> days after her husband’s death.<\/p>\n
MacGowan’s funeral will take place on Friday at St. Mary of the Rosary Church in Dublin.<\/p>\n
The cortege will leave Nenagh in MacGowan’s home county of Tipperary in the morning.<\/p>\n
It will be open to the public.<\/p>\n
Irish President Michael Higgins<\/b> will attend the funeral, reports say.<\/p>\n
Shane MacGowan, 65, died last Thursday following a recent hospital stay after being diagnosed with encephalitis.<\/p>\n
MacGowan, who had been struggling with drugs and alcohol abuse, was diagnosed with viral encephalitis in 2022 and was hospitalized.<\/p>\n
He co-founded the Anglo-Irish band blending traditional Irish folk music with punk sounds in 1982.<\/p>\n
“Fairytale of New York,” featuring McGowan and Kirsty MacColl<\/b>, is considered as The Pogues’ greatest hit.<\/p>\n
