Comedy icon Julian Clary has fired back at claims that he wasn’t fully engaged when he appeared on the Channel 4 show Taskmaster hosted by Greg Davies.

Speaking about his appearance on the programme he admitted that he desperately wanted to “please Greg Davies”.

Saying that he was “quite infatuated with him” he insisted that he wasn’t bored during his appearance.

“I’m a bit dour… I was accused of looking bored during some of the tasks.

“I wasn’t all bubbly and enthusiastic. I was just me! That’s all I can offer,” he said.

“I really enjoyed it much more than anything I’ve done for years on TV,” he gushed to Radio Times.

“It’s a really nice atmosphere and I felt in very safe hands,” he concluded.

While Taskmaster is well past watershed, Julian has also recently spoken out about his lack of enthusiasm for daytime TV.

In the same interview, he admitted daytime telly feels sordid to him due to a rule in his house during his childhood.

Starring in the likes of Friday Night Live, Who Do You Think You Are and his own game show Sticky Moments with Julian Clary, his work has been predominately later in the day.

Growing up in Middlesex with his dad, mum and two sisters, the 64-year-old has said his upbringing his household was “all comedy”.

However it appears that the comedy all came later in the evening as daytime TV wasn’t a thing in his household.

He admitted that he was only allowed watch television at night and therefore, to this day, has no time for daytime TV.

The same can’t be said of reality TV of which he is something of a veteran.

He won Celebrity Big Brother in 2012 but prior to that he strutted his stuff on Strictly Come Dancing in the second series in 2004 and made the final.
