Mike Brewer baffled by Royal Familys treatment of Formula One legend

Jenson Button breaks Guinness World Record on Batak board

Wheeler Dealers presenter Mike Brewer revealed he was “baffled” that the Royal Family hadn’t yet offered British racing legend Jenson Button a knighthood.

In the latest episode of his podcast, entitled Mike and Andy’s Automotive Alphabet: J, he declared the decision “a shame”.

Speaking to fellow presenter Andy Jaye, he said: “You know the one thing that always surprises me? We’ve got Sir Bradley Wiggins, Sir Chris Hoy, Sir Lewis Hamilton. Legends.

“We have these people who are knighted for doing great things for the country.

“Now Jenson Button – it baffles me why we don’t have Sir Jenson Baffles,” he continued.

“And it always baffles me, because Jenson has been a great flag bearer for Great Britain for nearly three decades and he’s performed beautifully on every continent on the planet.

“He’s never let us down, as a country. He’s only ever done us proud,” Mike insisted.

“He’s a great advocate for the best things about the United Kingdom and I think it’s a shame that he’s not been shown by the Royal Family.

“I think he’s got an MBE,” Mike admitted. “But I think he should be Sir Jenson Button.”

Mike then went on to say that Jenson should have part of the iconic Silverstone motor racing circuit named after him.

British racing driver Jenson won the 2009 Formula One World Championship when he drove for the Brawn GP team.

He also became champion of the 2018 season of the Super GT Series alongside Naoki Yamamoto after his F1 career finished.

Jenson was appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire in the 2010 New Year Honours for services to motorsport, receiving his award from the late Queen Elizabeth II.
