Samuel Ross Reunites With Hublot to Dress the Big Bang Tourbillon in “Vivid Green” Hues
Samuel Ross and Hublot’s relationship runs deep. Having been awarded the Hublot Design Prize in 2019, the London-based multidisciplinary designer, and founder of A-COLD-WALL*, was named the Swiss brand’s official ambassador the following year.
Adding a second collaborative piece to their roster, Ross revisits the Big Bang Tourbillon through his design-led SR_A venture. Building on his signature industrial design aesthetic and aiming to create a wearable sculpture, all of the watch’s case components are adorned in micro-blasted titanium that extends to the clasp which features a laser engraving of the Hublot logo.
Channeling the brand’s Art of Fusion vision, Ross incorporates contrasting materials to elevate the iconic silhouette. With his adaptation leaning on the titanium make-up — which sees it hammered and polished into shape to develop a sense of motion — the designer brings the watch’s hexagonal honeycomb structure to the forefront as he taps into its geometric look. The rubber strap — utilizing perforated mesh to complement its case — takes on “Vivid Green” hues for a sporty yet bold look as well as arrives in both black and white iterations.
Driven by details, the watch’s 44mm case is comprised of 282 components whilst the bezel boasts 26 jewels that complete its eye-catching design. Inside, the brand’s signature HUB6035 caliber beats at 3Hz during its 72-hour power reserve as well as guaranteeing water resistance to up to 30m.
Speaking on the latest collaboration and his venture’s mission, Ross explains, “We are focused on crafting refined, minimal, and expressive timepieces. SR_A looks to expand, redefine, and establish timeless icons of design, reflecting a spirit of innovation, optimism, and craft. I firmly believe we need all three properties to usher in the next chapter of luxury.”
The Hublot Big Bang Tourbillon SR_A by Samuel Ross is limited to only 50 pieces and is available now. For more information, visit the brand’s website.
