Shakira, 46, shows off flexibility skills ahead of VMA's performance
Shakira looks set to put on a jaw-dropped performance at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) if her rehearsal photos are anything to go by.
The 46-year-old music icon is set to perform at the prestigious ceremony alongside the likes of Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion, Olivia Rodrigo.
Hosted by Nicki Minaj, artists such as Taylor Swift, SZA, and Sam Smith are all up for accolades.
Ahead of her performance, the Waka Waka hitmaker gave fans a glimpse into her performance by showing off her incredible flexibility.
The singer could be seen contorting herself on the floor before grabbing a silver guitar and taking to the microphone.
She can even be seen with her legs wrapped around her head in the jaw-dropping photos which she posted to her Instagram page.
‘Guess which song this pose is from? 👀 can’t wait for Tuesday! #VMAs,’ she captioned the post, with the official VMAs account commenting: ‘Literally counting the minutes !!!!’
At the ceremony, she will be honoured with the Michael Jackson Vanguard Award which celebrates ‘outstanding contributions’ and ‘profound impact’ on popular culture.
Speaking in a press release, Bruce Gilmer, Paramount President of Music, described Shakira as a ‘true global force’ before she is presented with the award, whose recipients include Madonna, Rihanna, and Beyonce.
‘Shakira is a true global force who continues to inspire and influence the masses with her unique, musical prowess,’ he said.
‘She’s a trailblazer for women around the world and one of the first artists to lead the globalization of Latin music,’ he continued.
‘Her massive impact across the musical landscape will be long-lasting as she continues to create and entertain at the highest level,’ he concluded.
Taylor Swift leads the charge at this year’s award show with eight nominations, followed closely by All The Stars hitmaker SZA with six.
A staggering 35 artists are nominated for the first time this year, with Kim Petras making the shortlist for five prizes; all for her Sam Smith collaboration Unholy.
In addition, newcomers Metro Boomin and Rema are up for three awards each, while Ayra Starr, GloRilla, Ice Spice, Peso Pluma, Renee Rapp, and Yung Miami are all in the running for two accolades.
