A bride has been shamed by cruel trolls for serving up Asda doughnuts to her guests in lieu of an expensive wedding cake.
Chloe Simmons from Essex, kept it simple with the dessert on her big day, opting for a sweet treat made up of a small cake and supermarket doughnuts
On average UK couples dish out between £300 to £400 on a wedding cake, according to BrideBook, with some even spending as much as £750.
But with many are tightening their purse strings in light of the cost of living crisis, the mother-of-two opted to keep it simple instead of forking out hundreds on a luxurious cake.

So, the newlyweds decided on a more economical option, dishing out £40 for a locally baked small cake as their top tier.
They also bought 144 doughnuts from ASDA for £41, to fill the bottom layers of a white cake stand decorated with elegant white flowers.
The money smart mother-of-two joked that ‘certain bridesmaids’ had been helping themselves to the arrangement before the cake cutting, adding: ‘It did look more full than it does here!’
Although her guests were fans of the doughnut-cake hybrid, many TikTok users have slammed the bride for her economical approach.
Some went as far as to brand Chloe as ‘tacky’ and ‘cheap’, with one person quipping ‘But you couldn’t have at least arranged it in a nice display.’
Another chimed in: ‘If my girlfriend wanted this I wouldn’t have married her.’
The mother-of-two defended her wedding cake, stating she would rather let her guests eat part of the arrangement before the cake cutting ceremony than be a bride who only cares about ‘appearances’
‘Wow ASDA doughnuts… sorry but I rather not to get married than serve cheapest cakes to my guests,’ wrote a third.
One person even said they would leave ‘that’ wedding, while one jabbed: Maybe if you knew what goes into baking a wedding cake and decorating then you’d justify the £300.’
Even her choice of ‘plain’ doughnuts was criticised, with a user adding: ‘You could have at least picked the ones with sprinkles on top.’
However, Chloe was quick to defend her money-saving choice in a follow up video.
She did not care that her guests helped themselves to the sweet snacks before the cutting because she’s ‘a bride that cares more about people being happy than appearances.’
Not all the comments were against the mother-of-two, with many applauding her for going down the more financially-savvy route.
‘Normalise not spending ridiculous sums on a wedding day. Well done,’ one quipped.
Another questioned why viewers were being ‘so snobby’, adding ‘ASDA doughnuts are way nicer than an overpriced dry cake covered in fondant.’
A third said: ‘Omg that’s amazing unique and not spending ridiculous [amounts] on ten minutes of cake. I hope this becomes a trend.’

One revealed: ‘I literally had one piece of our wedding cake and my wife wasn’t happy with it either so this is genius’
‘Our wedding cake is from Marks and Spencer and is saving us so much money,’ said another bride.
A previous bride chimed in: ‘We did this! But had brownies instead of doughnuts they all went!’
It was also revealed that another bride-to-be was going for a slightly more bizarre option, and decided to get a pork pie for her wedding ‘cake’.
