BBC finally confirms return of hit medical drama after months off screen and reducing amount of episodes | The Sun

THE BBC has finally confirmed the return date for Casualty after months off screen.

Fans of the medical drama have been left begging for the show's return after it disappeared from schedules earlier this year.

In good news, the BBC has now revealed that the show will be back before the year is out.

Casualty will return to screens on Saturday 30 December.

It means fans can finally breath a sigh of relief after fears that the show may not be returing.

The series went off air in September of this year in a huge blow to viewers who are used to tuning in every Saturday to see all the latest action from the Holby Hospital.

Casualty boss confirms fate of beloved character as exit rumours swirl

The confirmation that the show will finally be back comes just days after show bosses also poured cold water on claims that Dr Stevie Nash, played by Elinor Lawless, would be leaving.

Producers shared a statement to X – formerly Twitter – that Elinor would be firmly remaining with the show.

BBC chiefs said: "Don’t believe the rumours! Dr Stevie Nash isn’t going anywhere We love you @elinor_lawless."

During the time off air, the stars have been keeping themselves busy with Charles Venn showing off his ripped physique in the gym.

The hunk has been focused on his exercise during his time away from the screen and went shirtless for a steamy video in which he showed off his impressive abs in all their glory.

Earlier this year, it was confirmed that the number of episodes was to be slashed amid budget woes at the Beeb.

A TV insider told The Sun earlier this year: “Casualty peaked in the Noughties when it was on our screens on a Saturday night almost all year round, and that’s what many people have come to expect.

“The only year that saw a shorter series was in 2021 because of the pandemic, when all TV productions were severely affected.

“Now it seems the cost of living crisis could prove just as devastating.”

Casualty launched in 1986 and is now the world’s longest-running medical drama.

It started as a 15-part series and eventually hit 48 episodes a year.

Aside from during Covid, the last time it was as short as the latest 36-part series was in 2000.

Actor Derek Thompson, who plays nurse Charlie Fairhead, has been in the show since the first episode but will leave in 2024.
