NCIS’ Brian Dietzen unrecognisable in musical with Kelly Clarkson

NCIS: Actor Rocky Carrol on the success of TV show

NCIS’ Brian Dietzen sang and danced in a musical with former American Idol and talk show host Kelly Clarkson.

Prior to joining the CBS series as medical examiner Jimmy Palmer, he featured in From Justin to Kelly, starring Idol winner Kelly Clarkson and runner-up Justin Guarini in 2003.

The film was about the blossoming romance between a young waitress and a college student, portrayed by Clarkson and Guarini, with Dietzen as Justin’s nerdy friend Eddie.

While the leads were falling head over heels for one another, Eddie was on a mission to meet his online girlfriend Lizzie (Toi Svane Stepp).

He may not have been the central focus of the film but he did join in some of the musical numbers, prompting one of his fellow NCIS stars to later poke fun at him.

Opening up in an interview with Paul Semel, Dietzen explained how Michael Weatherly reacted when he learned of his singing and dancing past.

“I remember when Michael first heard that, I think Pauley [Perrette] told him, he started dancing around and making up songs he thought would be in it,” Dietzen said.

Nevertheless, in the same interview, he added how it was “incredibly fun, that was a fun movie to shoot.”

Dietzen did have some previous experience on the stage but when it came to his audition for the movie, he didn’t exactly know what he was doing.

He told Pop Entertainment: “I’ve done a lot of stage work but not musicals.

“I faked my way through [the audition], and they liked it well enough. So I got cast as [lead] Justin Guarini’s best friend.”

As of yet, Dietzen hasn’t had to use these other unexpected performance skills in NCIS.

It will be some time as well before he and the rest of the cast return to the police procedural.

There are delays across Hollywood due to the ongoing writers’ and actors’ strikes.

This means shows like NCIS, Law and Order, Stranger Things and many more have not yet returned.

NCIS has been given the green light for season 21 but this may not now begin until early 2024.

NCIS is available to watch on CBS.
