Strictlys Dianne Buswell says family news was reason for emotional on-screen moment
Dianne Buswell has revealed the reason why she became emotional on Strictly Come Dancing last week.
The 34-year-old and her celebrity dance partner Bobby Brazier scored 30 points for their Tango to Fashion by David Bowie, but in the post-performance interview, she became emotional.
The Strictly pro struggled to hold back the tears which sparked concern among fans and viewers.
When pressed by the show host Claudia Winkleman, Dianne said that 20-year-old Bobby had been her "rock" after an "emotional week."
Now Dianne, who joined the BBC dancing series in 2017, has shared the reason she became emotional with fans.
Revealing details about her personal life in a Q&A on her YouTube channel, she had received many messages asking if she was ok.
She said: "I thought I would be very upfront and honest with you all. Last week I got some news about my dad’s health and I won’t go into detail, but obviously that affected me.
"Being away from home and not being able to support and help your family in a time of need is quite a difficult thing so I did struggle a little bit last week in terms of that."
Dianne’s family had plans to head to the UK for Christmas and watch her on Strictly but she said that wouldn’t be happening now.
Instead she confirmed she was planning on going home to Australia at the end of the year.
She said: "There is a little road ahead for my dad but I believe 100% he is going to be fine and we are all going to get through it together."
She added that she would "greatly appreciate" if fans gave a "little thought or prayer" for her dad.
Dianne continued: "My dad is the sweetest, kindest man you will ever meet and the one thing he really wants is for me to keep going and to keep dancing my little heart out and doing what I love because that makes him the absolute proudest.
"Regardless if I go home with a glitterball or not I will still go home and have a hot Christmas."
Ahead of last week’s performance, she shared a photo on social media of a text he’d sent her before she took to the stage.
It read: "To my dearest lovely Dianne. I wish you all the best of luck for tonight’s concert, hope you and Bobby have a great dance tonight if Craig give you an 8 you are bound to get top 37 tonight. Love you more. Daddy."
