We didnt eat until 3am on Im A Celeb – they didnt wake us up until midday!
We can't believe I'm a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! is almost over for another year. But before we say a fond farewell, pop star Frankie Bridge, who appeared in the 2021 series, has revealed some behind the scene secrets, from early morning dinner times to midday wake-up calls.
The hit ITV reality TV show, hosted by the nation's favourite presenting duo, Anthony McPartlin and Declan Donnelly, sees celebs put through their paces as they take on Bushtucker Trials and camp conditions. Due to the Covid pandemic, the series which usually takes place in the heart of the Australian jungle, set up camp in a Wales castle in 2020 and 2021.
In 2021, we saw The Saturdays star, Frankie, 34 take on the castle and "freezing cold" conditions which saw her finish in third place. While the setting was different from the jungle, the stars still took on some gruelling Bushtucker Trials, camped out under the stars and had a series of show rules to follow.
Speaking exclusively to OK! Frankie revealed what it was really like on I'm A Celeb and said: "People warn you that you do get bored and hungry, but the hunger wasn't really a thing for me, the biggest shock for me was how long time can feel.
"I felt like I was in there for three months – time passes so painfully slowly and everyone has their watches covered up, so if you go out and do a trial, you can't see the time and I didn't realise how pivotal to your day knowing what the time is, it just throws you off."
She continued: "We knew what kind of time it was when we could hear them rehearsing the 'I'm a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!' part, we knew it was coming up to live show and when the show finished what kind of time it was, so that made it so much easier."
Talking about what time they would eat, Frankie told us: "They do the trial and you don't get fed until they know what you've won and obviously whoever it is coming back from the trial takes a long time to come back.
"Then they've got to get food ready to give to you, so you don't eat until around 2 or 3am, from what I could figure out.
"Your time shifts, because you go to bed so late so they don't wake you up until around the middle of the day, it really throws you off, there's a lot of stuff people don't think about." While this year's I'm A Celeb was in Australia, we're sure the dinner times and wake-up calls were just as unusual.
Frankie went on to say: "When Jamie Lynn Spears was crying people were saying 'She's only just got in there' but I'm like, she would have been away from home already for at least a week or two weeks.
"They take your phone away about five days before you go in, she wouldn't have had any contact with her kids, and then they've probably been in there for around five days or a week before you've even watched the show, so that's already nearly two or three weeks away from normal life.
"Everyone thinks it's so over the top but you're like no, it's already been quite a while."
Talking about their facilities in the castle Frankie revealed: "The shower was freezing, it was already really cold so that was quite a horrible experience and you had to pump it to get it out and it was like a group thing."
She added: "I think no matter how long it's been, or how many times people say it, everyone thinks that other stuff goes on behind the scenes that they don't know about, that you get given extra food and its more comfortable to sleep or you're warmer or whatever. But it's like truly what you see is what it is."
The pop star went on to say "There's a part of me that wishes I had done it in Australia but equally, I didn't do Australia because I didn't want to be on the other side of the world for the kids and I got to go to bed without being worried about being bitten by something that could kill me."
As well as being a regular panellist on Loose Women, Frankie has delved into the world of fashion having released her own clothing brand F W BRIDGE and regularly shares style tips with her 1.5M Instagram followers in 'Frankie's Faves'. Just recently she joined forces with Impulse to recreate some of the most iconic fashion moments from the 90s as the fragrance welcomed back its legendary 90s scents, Air and O2.
For the occasion, Frankie swapped her usual glam looks for Liz Hurley’s safety pin dress, Geri Halliwell’s Union Jack outfit, Cher Horowitz's two-piece suit from Clueless and Mariah Carey's iconic 'All I Want for Christmas' style.
