MAFS shock after 'kind and genuine' star dies

Former Married At First Sight Australia star Trisha Stratford has been confirmed dead aged 72, by her colleague John Aiken.

The clinical neuropsychologist starred on the programme from 2015 until her departure in 2020 and was pronounced dead by her fellow co-star on the morning of September 18.

John, 53, announced her tragic death on Instagram with a heartbreaking post and caption that read: ‘I’m heartbroken and devastated that my friend and dear colleague Trisha has passed away.

‘We shared an amazing seven seasons of @MAFS together. She loved everything New Zealand, relationships, the All Blacks, the Black Caps, French wine and travelling the world.

‘I’ll miss you, Tish. Thank you for all the memories. Jx.’

The show’s network Channel Nine sent words of condolence to Stratford’s family in a statement that read: ‘We are deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Dr Trisha Stratford.

‘Our sincerest condolences and heartfelt sympathies go out to her family and those closest during this difficult time.’

Former contestants and stars of the series – that saw strangers marry each other on their first meeting – flooded the internet with tributes for the late expert.

Elizabeth Sobinoff, who appeared in both series six and seven of the reality dating show, shared: ‘She was so genuine and so kind to me. She was so bright and a safe space.’

Season five’s Sarah Roza said: ‘Ohhh my gosh, this is such awful and unexpected news! Rest in peace, Trisha. You were ALWAYS just so lovely to me.’

The late star from New Zealand first joined the series for their TV debut as one of the experts alongside John and Sabina Read.

She announced that she was leaving the show in 2020 and shared a statement that said: ‘After seven seasons of Married At First Sight, I have decided to step back from the television series to focus on my writing, research and neuropsychotherapy.

‘The program provides a platform for an ongoing conversation on relationships, and I wish the program continued success and hope future participants find everlasting love.’
