Dan Grabiner To Launch Orchard Studios After Amazon UK Exit

The identity of Dan Grabiner’s new production house wasn’t secret for long. The outgoing Amazon UK exec is teaming with British factual veteran Nicola Hill to launch Orchard Studios.

Grabiner will be CEO of Orchard, with Hill, the former co-CEO of The Garden, taking an MD role. The venture will be based in London.

Production indie advisory Matisse is providing creative, strategic and talent support as Orchard recruits for various creative roles. Capital has been secured from an unnamed private media investment group.

Within the last hour, we revealed Grabiner was exiting his role as Head of Amazon Studios UK and Northern Europe for a new production venture after four years with the streamer. It’s now emerged that business is Orchard, which will work in the factual space.

“I’ve loved building something big from scratch at Amazon and I’ve been lucky enough to do that with a brilliant team and mighty creative collaborators,” said Grabiner. “Now it’s time to do that again with Orchard and I’m fired-up about growing a new kind of studio, where ambitious ideas are nurtured into your favourite show.”

Hill will oversee operations, production management and business affairs. She is known for spending 10 years with 24 Hours in Police Custody producer The Garden, which is part of ITV Studios.

“I’m thrilled to be working alongside Dan to launch Orchard Studios and build an ambitious, inclusive production company with a focus on creative excellence.”

Grabiner, who launched Prime Video Pathway, a £10M ($12.5M) initiative to bolster diversity within the UK’s film and television workforce, and Hill will incorporate training pathways into Orchard’s operations.
