The Crown star Imelda Staunton has opened up on what research she had done to prepare for the role of Queen Elizabeth II and revealed the one thing that surprised her the most.
She explained: “I didn’t realize, or think about, how much her faith meant to her, so that was an element I clung onto quite firmly.
“It helped me with her ability to be very still and thoughtful, and her strength comes from her faith.
“That was a part of her I didn’t really know, and it was really useful for me.”
She also touched on what it was like returning to set for the sixth and final season, adding: “Doing the last season did carry a lot of weight.

“We started and then, very soon after, the Queen died, so it was quite difficult, to be honest. We carried on with as much dignity and grace as they have always done on The Crown.
“But, obviously, there was a very different temperature in the world, in England and even more so on The Crown.”
She admitted they couldn’t do anything different but carry on, despite being sad about the news of her death.
The final season of the highly anticipated series is said to have been divided into the events of the late 1990s and early 2000s.

The synopsis for episode one reads: “As Princess Diana [Elizabeth Debicki) and the boys set off for St Tropez for a holiday courtesy of Mohamed Al Fayed [Salim Daw], Prince Charles [Dominic West] advances his latest plan to legitimise his relationship with Camilla [Olivia Williams] in the public eye.
“A glittering fiftieth birthday party at Highgrove that he hopes the Queen will attend.
“Fayed, too, is in strategising mode. Unbeknownst to Diana, he hopes to engineer a romance between the Princess and his son, Dodi [Khalid Abdalla].
“But with a small complication: Dodi himself is already engaged to someone else.”
The Crown Season 6 Part 1 launches on Netflix, November 16, followed by part 2 on December 14.
