The Repair Shops Christopher unveils special addition to touching restoration

The Repair Shop: Chris manages to restore old book

The Repair Shop’s Christopher Shaw blew one person away after unveiling an extra special addition he included in a book restoration.

During a repeated episode of the BBC show, viewers were introduced to Clint Yallop who wanted help fixing his grandfather’s notebook.

His grandfather, who was a pathological technician back in the 1920s, used the book to note down all the methods he used and which ones were successful.

Now in the scientific field himself, Clint wanted Chris’ help to try and bring the notebook back to its former glory.

Pointing out the fragile pages, he informed the expert the spine was also becoming detached and pages were coming loose.

Returning to the workshop later on, Jay Blades was curious to know what Clint expected to see once the book was officially revealed.

He said: “Something in slightly better condition than when I passed it over to you really. I want to be able to scan it from end to end without worrying about pages falling out.”

As Chris revealed the book, Clint was gobsmacked by the restoration he’d managed to achieve.

Picking up his item, he commented: “Wow, look at that, that’s amazing! You’ve stiffened up the cover as well, that’s a beautiful piece of work.”

Confessing that before bringing it into the workshop it looked like a collection of loose sheets, Clint was pleased it now resembled a book.

Flicking through the pages, he added: “My grandad would be so impressed with this.

“To be able to know that if I do get stuck on anything in the future, I can swing around, go through it and know that my grandad’s looking over me maybe and giving me a nudge.

“It is a real connection, it’s marvellous, thank you very much.”

However, Clint was in for a shock when Christopher revealed he had made him something extra for the book.

He said: “Because it’s quite vulnerable, I’ve made you a little box to house it in.”

Showing him the small black engraved case he can now keep the book in, Clint was stunned by the kind gesture.

He replied: “No way! Oh look at that, George Yallop’s notebook. That is fantastic, thank you so much. That is brilliant, now it stands out on a shelf.”

The Repair Shop is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
